This represents your job profile for a particular position.

Now we match up candidates who have already taken the M.O.F.F.A.™  and see if they are a good match for this particular position.

Interpretation

Based on this example, the candidate is a poor fit for this job.  Ideally, a candidate would be perfectly aligned with the job.  At a minimum, 80% is acceptable.  We would not recommend this candidate be interviewed.    If you choose to interview this candidate, there are some recommended interview questions below.

Interview Questions

The real benefit of the M.O.F.F.A™ ORG is the ability to properly size up the desired behaviors of a position and then interview a candidate to assess how well they fit initially.  The sample interview questions below can be used to assess a candidate round the five Focus Factors.  Keep in mind that you’ll need to ask the questions objectively, not allowing your verbal and non-verbal cues to steer a candidate towards or away from your desired Focus Factor.  Listen carefully to the candidate’s answers and take detailed notes.   While the Focus Factor alignment is important, there are also the Skill (can they do the job) and Will  (do they want to do the job) categories to consider as well.

Focus Factor #1:  Communication

  • Tell me about a time you were part of a great team?  What was your part in making that team effective?

  • In your opinion, what makes meetings most productive?

  • Tell me about a time you had to work with someone who was more reserved and reflective?  How did you manage it?

  • Tell me about a time you had to work with someone who was more assertive and extraverted?  How did you manage it?

  • Tell me about the most rewarding office setting or structure you ever worked in?  What did you like the best about it?

  • Tell me about the most challenging office setting or structure you ever worked in?  What did you dislike the most about it?

Focus Factor #2:  Self-Structure

  • When do you do your best work:  When you can focus on one task to completion or when you are able to work on many tasks simultaneously?

  • What do you find most challenging about having to focus on one task to completion?

  • What do you find most challenging about having to multi-task?

  • Tell me about a time you finished a detailed project?  What was most rewarding about the process that went into the completion?

Focus Factor #3:  Perspective

  • What kinds of people do you enjoy working with the most:  someone more visionary or one who is more practical?

  • Tell me about a time you worked with someone who always thought “outside the box?”  What did you enjoy or not enjoy about that?

  • Tell me about a time you worked with someone who focused on the current situation or what happened in the past regarding that issue.  What did you enjoy or not enjoy about that?

Focus Factor #4:  Relationship

  • In your opinion, what criteria are most important to consider when making an important decision?

  • Tell me about a time you worked with a boss who made decisions based largely on data and logic.  How did you react to those decisions?

  • Tell me about a time you worked with a boss who made decisions based largely on people’s feelings and reactions.  How did you react to those decisions?

  • In your opinion, is it better to be liked or to be right?

Focus Factor #5: Work Style

  • What type of work environment works best for you: being a part of a work team or having individual responsibility for outcomes?

  • Tell me what you think is the best part of being on a work team. What is the worst part?

  • Tell me about the best team accomplishment you were ever a part of.

  • Tell me about your best individual accomplishment.

Focus Factor #6:  Mindset

  • What kinds of people are easiest for you to work with: someone who is eternally optimistic or someone who is more pragmatic?

  • Tell me about a time you worked with someone who was over-optimistic:  Did this inspire you or annoy you?

  • Tell me about a time you worked with someone who was overly pessimistic:  Did this inspire you or annoy you?
